Pickin’ Pun’kins
We took advantage of a beautiful fall morning to continue our pumpkin patch tradition. Much has changed since our last visit to see the "kunkins" (translation: pumkins).
Here’s a look at the Now vs. Then:
THEN – Mama misses her pudgy pumpkins! |
Here’s some more shots from our pumpkin morning…
Now we have 4 cute little pumpkins perched on our front porch, waiting to be carved/decorated. Any carving tips from you experts? I need to "carve" out some time to make pumpkin chocolate chip bread this week!
Maybe the boys can help you paint them (or maybe they are too young for that)? I have no idea! We can put pumpkins out because Cubby likes to eat them.

Loving the before and after photos of the boys 🙂 Maybe you could carve their initials into them?
what wonderful pictures! the family picture is great and it looks like you had a lot of fun! i cannot wait to make our annual trip to the pumpkin farm this year, i am hoping to go this weekend! we missed it last year because the peaches were so itty bitty!
those boys are just getting more and more handsome, no tips here we do not do pumkins in AUS…. have fun and cannot wait to see the costumes
Leonie
oh i love the snap and freeze comment, that is my house too!
SO SO SO CUTE! And wow, your boys look so alike, even the fraternal ones.
Ideas for pumpkins – what about carving Obama, McCain, Biden and Palin’s images into the pumpkins? Or maybe just the two that you are voting for and then one pumpkin can say Vote and one can say USA. I found the patterns for the faces online by googling it. If I had any carving talent, I might try it. Oh! And I found Pooh and friends patterns – that would be cute (and time consuming:)
GREAT family shot! I need more of those. I get a little wierded out asking complete strangers to take our picture. For you though, how could one NOT offer! You’ve got the best pumpkins around!
Your photos are always quite beautiful. What kind of camera do you use and what do DO to get them so vivid and the photos just pop out!
With young toddlers, we like to strip them down to a onesie, cover the table with a vinyl tablecloth and let them have at the pumpkin with fingerpaints. Usually they sit on the table, but with your guys you could probably just have them sit in their special table. Lots of great photo ops!
Jen, your photography skills are incredible! I think that every time I check out your blog (which is like every day).
Love,
Moni
I LOVE these pictures. Jen they are so grown up!
Miss you so much.
Gen
Jen, my sister and I took our kids to the very same place on Sunday for the festival. We had a great time and took pictures on that same pile of pumpkins. Your boys look adorable. Your pictures always look great.
Pam
I agree. Your photography skills are awesome! I can only imagine how hard it is to get a decent shot of four boys at that age, but you manage to do it.
wonderful pictures! looks like so much fun. we have to get our pumpkins from a grocery store here…just not as fun!
AaaW Jen! Doesn’t seem possible they are already walking when this time last year they were just little babies sitting on those punkins!! How precious and sweet picts. ~Sioby. Also, I hate to bug you,LOL, but can you write me on facebook at your earliest convenince?
I love the picture of the four boys – they look like young Kennedys (I hope you take that as a compliment – I LOVE JFK, Jackie, John, jr & Carolyn!)…
GREAT pictures!!!
Last year I went to the Better Homes and Gardens website to get free pumpkin carving stencils. You could play around with all sorts of stuff and create your own face, then just print it out. Don’t know if they’re doing it again this year, but I’m sure they’ve got some fun stuff on there!
Great photos (as always…). Looks like you had a blast! We have yet to make it to the punkin patch…soon hopefully!
With 20 month olds, I suggest stickers for decorating! However, for pumpkins to light up, “Martha” told me to use metal cookie cutters. Last year I used a star and hammered my cookie cutter through all over the pumpkins…it was pretty cute. You could probably go back to my October postings to see what I am trying to explain…but failing at!
wow, look how far the boys have come! it’s amazing what happens in just a year! i love all the pictures. we are going to our local pumpkin patch in a couple of weeks. i love the boys haircuts, it makes them look so grown up! anyway, i hope you have a great week! i hope to keep up with the blog better now.
Love the pics! Looks like they really enjoyed the “kunkins”! question…I think you have something before about it, but I can’t remember…are two of your quads ID? Or am I a nutball with a faulty memory! LOL
Hey, Jen…it’s Christine. Thanks for the fun time yesterday. Sorry my little angel turned monster on all of us. I loved getting to know you and I have a billion questions for you on how you make it work…for another time.
LOVE the photos! Pumpkin Patch’s make the best photo ops! I SO wished we lived up north so we could experience the fall weather! Happy Fall! love, Cathy
The pictures are so cute! I love the age when they start to explore and take things in like that. It is almost like you can see the wheels turning.
Anyway, I suggest using paint sticks or permanent markers and letting them decorate the pumpkins as they see fit. Of course do this in old clothes outside! I saw someone said finger paints – I would have suggested that, too but I didn’t think they would stick to the pumpkin.
Another thought is to get some hats, glasses, yarn for hair, etc. You draw a face on each one and let them “accessorize” them.
I can’t wait to see the pictures of whatever you do decide to do with them.
Its amazing how much they change in just a year! Great pictures
Thanks for the comment. I have been following your family for the past year, you have a beautiful family. Your pictures are outstanding. Thanks for sharing all of your adventures I love heraing about them!
You should carve their names in each one and take individual photos of them.
