4tunate Cookies

Apparently the drive-thu worker at Panda Express must read our blog or somehow knows we have quadruplets….

Brad and I have been taking the boys on a “date” with us in the van about once a week to escape the walls of isolation! =) It entails bundling up the boys, loading the boys in the van, driving through a drive thru, and scarfing it down in the parking lot (while the boys get impatient and sometimes quite angry). Sounds like a romantic date, huh? What else can you do in Indiana in 12 degree weather during RSV season with four babies????? It’s actually become something I really look forward to….

So after loading the van, we head to Panda Express for Orange Chicken and here’s the drive thru dialogue:

Brad: Uh, could we have another fortune cookie? (We get share an order to save cash, plus they give you a ton of food! So I wanted my OWN fortune cookie)

Lee*:How many?

Brad: Just one.

Brad gives back bag to Lee* and after a somewhat long delay hands the bag back to Brad

Lee*: There you go, sir. One extra fortune cookie. Have a nice day.

(Said with the smallest of smirks on his face)

*Name changed to protect the guilty (and save his job!)

I opened the bag as we pulled away to find it FULL of fortune cookies. I felt like we won the lottery!

I know we don’t get out much and I probably find this story more hillarious and entertaining than most of you, but we were rolling! I wanted to go hug my new friend Lee*, but he seemed pretty busy and it would be kind of complicated to hug a guy through a little drive thru window. Thanks, Lee*, for inspiring this blog post, for the weekend snacks and the enjoyment of reading mindless fortunes aloud.

(Check back soon – I promise to update you on all the fun, crazy times around here….)

We did the same thing with our twins, even when it wasn’t RSV season, sometimes it was just easier to eat in the van rather than getting everybody into the restaurant. We also chose restaurants that had something for the boys when they were just starting on table foods — so at Skyline Chili the boys had oyster crackers, and Steak & Shake (good coupons, and food comes quickly when you go through the drive through) has a side of cottage cheese and pineapple.

  5. When we were trying to get pregnant, I had Chinese twice in a few weeks time. BOTH times, I got the fortune “Your current plans will succeed.” Also in that time, I attended a friend’s baby shower and played a game with a baby in an ice cube. When I got my ice cube melted, I had 2 babies! Isn’t it ironic we ended up with twins?

Enjoy your cookies! Think the boys can chew on those?

You gotta let us know some of the “fortunes” predicted (and who you think they were meant for!)

Cute story! And I’m sure it won’t be long before the boys let you know they’d rather pull through a McDonald’s than Panda Express! LOL. Enjoy it while you can!

    Warning: long comment!

God truly does work through Panda Express fortunes, as someone mentioned above! 🙂 When I was on bed rest with our twins boys, I started getting pretty bummed out about EVERYTHING. Here it was Christmas-time, and I was “banned” from going to church, out to see family and friends, etc. My sweet hubby brought me some Panda Express after work (yes, to SHARE, as it is AMPLE food!), and my fortune read “Cherish Home and Family as a Special Gift.” My attitude SERIOUSLY did change and I began to see each day of bed rest as another exciting day that I get to help put some fat on our precious babies – a huge blessing. I began to love the fact that I was home during that time feeling every single little kick (and, I suppose, every sciatic nerve pinch – hehe) rather than rushing around at work.

I still have this fortune on my computer desk.

Blessings to all 6 of you,
    – Amber

P.S. We almost ate in the car after church on Sunday. The boys were OUT, and we really didn’t want to wake them. The only problem – they gave us NO ketchup. Who can actually eat fries with NO ketchup? Even though it meant waking the boys before eating, I couldn’t actually do it. But, yes, we too have eaten plenty of meals in the car with the boys sleeping in their car seats. I recommend Sonic. 😉

  9. That’s so funny!!! I know when you have several kids, especially little ones and RSV season you have to take what you can get…even if it’s not the most romantic date!!! 🙂
