Climbing the Walls and Windows

If this video isn’t proof that boys need physical activity, I don’t know what is…

While I was doing laundry, packing, and planning for a trip for six to the south last week, they were climbing the walls  the windows.  My word, these boys need to climb, wrestle, flip, run, tackle, summersault, explore, MOVE!

Thankfully, we’ve been enjoying some warmer temps this week that have led to kicking the soccer ball, swinging the bat, running up and down hills, throwing rocks in the lake, and getting muddy.  Yes, my laundry load increases by the minute, but it saves the furniture…and sometimes even our sanity.

For those of you with boys – is this normal?  Is/Are your boy(s) active and need physical play constantly?  Do your kids climb the walls/windows? 😉

  1. I have twin one year old boys and a two and a half year old boy…so, yes, climbers, movers & shakers constantly moving!! It’s crazy-town here sometimes!

Glad to hear I’m not alone! It’s constant crazy in these parts!

Well, my twin girls, soon to be 4 years old, are every bit as eager to jump, roll, climb, wrestle… you know 🙂 One of their favourite activities is balancing along the arm rests on our sofas, jumping from one to the next!

I always wonder what it would be like with girls in the mix with these rowdies. =) Glad to hear it’s not just a boy thing!

  3. Crystal says:

Oh goodness, yes! There’s nothing better than little boys and exercise. I find that MUCH more preferable than little girls and drama! Jack and Jude both love to wrestle with my husband — and me! P.S. Did you get the interview questions I sent?

    1. QuatroMama says:

Crystal – I’ve been meaning to email you all week! I’m not seeing the questions – can you try 4tunate {dot} net {at} gmail ?
And yes, I’d take rowdy and giggles over drama any day!

oh, jen! you are not alone. check my facebook page for the video i posted yesterday. even watching tv is a full-body experience with my 5 year old twin and 2 year old boys!! can’t wait for summer and the chance to stay outdoors for hours at a time!!

Hilarious! They are a different bread! 😉

I have 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 year old boys and they are active! They are quickly outgrowing our tiny backyard. I constantly ask them to get off the back of the couch. Right now our bunk bed is NOT stacked since I know my 2 1/2 year old will jump right off that thing and break his neck. Boys are fun, but they are energetic too. I read somewhere that little boys have at least 50% more energy than girls, I believe it! I have a month old girl, so we’ll find out as she get ‘s older.

love the video of your boys having a gooooood time. actually they’re rather careful with their antics – and they take turns. =0) thanks for sharing, they are so cute!

    1. QuatroMama says:

Teresa, it’s true they are “cautiously wild”, which I’m sure has saved us umpteen ER runs!

  7. Holly says:

Ha – I used to do the same thing when I was little! I would leap off the arm of the sofa and do a backflip onto the cushions. Now I have a son and he runs circles around me. But it’s great – chasing him is my primary source of exercise.

The news has been full of tornado stories. Are you all safe where you are?

    1. QuatroMama says:

Holly, thanks for checking in – the severe damage was to the south of us. It’s horribly devastating. Prayers for them all!

  8. I’ve figured out with boys that they have daily physical requirements just as we all have daily food group requirements. For us they happen to be: climbing, jumping, running, throwing, crashing. If our day is deficient in any of those areas, watch out!

    1. QuatroMama says:

So true. I’m thinking that wrestling outlet you’ve got going is super SMART.

I have 10yr. old and 6yr. old boys and they drive me BONKERS every.single.day!!!! I have a 16mon. old girl and hope they don’t teach her their ways 😉 Furniture gets old/worn looking/damaged REAL fast, their stuff is everywhere, dirty walls, disgusting bathroom with toothpaste gobs in the sink and around the toilet, um…. yeah boys are SO fun haha!! 😉 they say they are less drama as teenagers but already my 10yr. old has the attitude of a teenager, oh boy can’t wait to see what’s in store!!! And he’s always complaining there’s not enough food. And trying to get them to pick up their mess??? Not easy.

Even the way my daughter eats seem so much more “dainty” than I remember the boys eating, and the other day I asked her to pick up some baby wipes and she not only threw them in the trash can (was impressed she understood what I was saying) but when 1 of the wipes landed on the edge of the trash can, she looked at it and then picked it up and made sure it went in all the way…. I was SO happy LOL!!! I mean that is just something even my 10yr. old wouldn’t do!

Your boys seem sweet, I often wonder if I had had a brother closer in age to my oldest, but it didn’t work out that way for us as we had trouble conceiving #2.

    1. QuatroMama says:

Noelle, it was so fun to read about the dynamics of your family! I could clean bathrooms 4x a day! =) Thank goodness SPRING is coming!

  10. Meg says:

Yes. I have a 4.5 yr old and almost 3 yr old and they are so so so active!!! It also like they need to breathe fresh outdoor air very day to keep them from being crazy. All that you described. And oh the wrestling!! With each other and daddy. I’m pregnant with boy #3. And am expecting more of the same! rowdy and loud things they are!

    1. QuatroMama says:

Never a dull moment, right? =)

  11. Stacy says:

Boys are soo energetic! I have a 3 year old and 19 month old. They are 16 months apart. It is CRAZY all the time here.

  13. Looks about normal. My 3 1/2 year old and two year old boys do the same thing.

  14. Kalle says:

Oh my goodness, YES!! I have been enjoying your blog so much, and had to comment on this post. I have 4 5 yr olds. 3boys and a girl…plus a 10 yr old boy. They are SO active…and my sweet girl keeps up with them just fine. The other day I laid all of their mattressed down our stairs (with one at the bottom for a soft landing) for a fun slide. The weather was bad and we needed to burn off some energy!! Thanks for sharing your life on your blog. It makes me smile to see so many similarities to my own life.

  16. LuAnn Braley says:

Totally normal! I only had 2 boys, 18 months apart, and we half-way joked about renting them out as a 2 man wrecking crew! :O) Right now, we have 6 puppies (about 8 wks old) left from a litter born on Halloween and we could use more rowdy boys to run around with them! *haha*
