How a Mom of 4 Boys Keeps Her Floors Clean

It’s not uncommon when I post a picture here, or on Facebook or Instagram that I get a comment of “How in the world do you keep your floors so clean with four boys going in and out of your house?!!!”

Well, they are far from spotless or something you could eat off of, but it is one thing in my home that I try and keep up with…if I let my floors go, so goes my house!

{I’m speaking of my own floors, not judging yours, so just go put that mama guilt away if floors aren’t a big deal to you.}

So What’s My Floor Cleaning Routine?

  • I sweep after every meal. (It’s just part of my meal clean up process.)
  • I mop the kitchen as needed (at least once a week).
  • I spot treat and clean up spills between mopping.
  • I frequently send the boys outside to eat when the weather is nice. 😉
  • I sweep/mop the hallway, entry, and bathrooms once a week
  • I vacuum 1-2x a week

It sounds like a lot of work, but it just got SIMPLER and FASTER with my Shark Sonic Duo.  Prior to receiving my Shark Sonic Duo for this review, I tried a dozen or more products for cleaning my hard floors from cleaners, to mops, to Swiffer products, but had went back to a good ole sponge and vinegar water scrubbing on my hands and knees.

As for my carpet, it’s typical “builder carpet” that’s had its share of abuse. I try to spot treat it now and then, and keep it vacuumed until someday when my “Carpet Fairy” arrives.

So How is the Shark Sonic Duo Helping Keep My Floors Clean with Less Effort?

  • Hard floors look and feel cleaner than other leading products with less effort. The Shark Sonic Duo removes 4x more stuck-on dirt in carpets than vacuuming alone that removes only loose, dry dirt and dust
  • The powerful cleaning system requires little to no pressure or force to move the system
  • Hard floors dry in less than 5 minutes and require no rinsing
  • The system uses non-toxic, biodegradable formulas that are safe for children and pets

My only complaint is that it didn’t miraculously turn my carpet into a spotless wonderland.  And the price tag is a tad steep for our budget (although it’s currently on sale for over 30% off at Amazon), but knowing what I know now I can’t imagine living without it!

So how do YOU keep your floors clean?  What’s your floor cleaning routine?

I HATE sweeping and mopping, so I do it only when absolutely necessary! Although my Norwex mop is a pretty good option.

Two boys over here currently but, due to our farm life, my husband is in and out of the house all day and my kids track all sorts of icky things into the house! Our carpet is a nightmare and we are ripping it out to put in laminate in a couple weeks. At that point my solution will be my Norwex mop. Love that thing!

I recently had wood flooring put down in my home. I research how to care for it and one of the things that came up over and over, was to not use a steamer on wood floors. Apparently the steam can get down into the seams of the floors and cause the wood to swell. I would love to find that this was not true as I love my steamer for my tile floors and it would be much quicker than mopping. Which, by the way, is suppose to be done with a mop that has been rung out til it is barely damp.

      Lorrene, it’s not a steamer.

    2. Its not a steamer, think of it as a glorified souped up Swiffer but so much better!

I use the Bona products for my bamboo hardwood – i like the cleaning stuff but their bottles (in the mop/ and the regular one) keep breaking so i just put it in a plain squeeze bottle/sprayer. I hate carpeting too – would love to get rid of it all! i put in a white carpet in the office- what a mistake!
