You Know It’s Been A Long Winter When…

Are you ready for something light-hearted? I sure am.

Well on my sunshine day, we spent a couple of hours at a local park. It was packed with kids going wild, and parents who looked more than a little relieved to get their kids outside on a sunny March afternoon, especially with the freezing temperatures that were predicted for the following days. It’s been a long winter, y’all.

Our boys played, climbed, and disappeared into the masses for a little while, while we found one empty space at a picnic bench directly in the path of the warm sun. A little oasis in the chaos. That lasted for a good 3 minutes, when the semi-silence was interrupted by Clark who wanted us to time him making a lap around the perimeter of the playground. And of course his brothers could sniff out a good competition from all ends of the park. One by one, they gathered, and raced until breathless – cheering each other on, diving across the rubber mulch finish line, and drawing random kids into their Olympic trials. Playground equipment and 4 story slides are so 2013.

Lots of parents commented in passing, “Your boys will sleep good tonight”, “Wear them out now”, “They are going to crash”…but we know better. These boys have an endless supply of energy. I wish they would share just a little sip of their “Fountain of Youth” with their weary mother.

We took a short walk around the trail, and then I reached my limit for the day. We stopped by the store on the way home, and Brad ran in to get some supplies for a simple dinner. I had heard several complaints of being hot. Yes, it was 58 degrees. Hot is so relative, isn’t it? It’s crazy how much our bodies adjust to the seasonal temperatures.

As turned around to reprimand the child for complaining on such a perfect day, I shockingly got an eye-full of 4 shirtless boys asking me to roll down the windows or they might die. 58 degrees, People. 5 – 8.

They then proceeded to take over the window-less van like this. {Are those gang symbols, Henry?} I’m still in shock that CPS hasn’t called yet. My mom will probably be taking over custody after seeing this post.

It’s been a long, long winter.

It’s laughs like these that will push us into spring. So thankful for these wild and crazy dudes, who never make life boring, and keep us humble with humiliation as needed. They are calling for a high of 63 today, so if you see boys in their swim trunks eating popsicles, you’ll know they’re all mine.

Totally funny. My son has been secretly sleeping shirtless. He waits to take his shirt off after he’s in bed. Stinker. I wouldn’t care but he gets cold by morning. I think our boys would have a lot of fun together if you lived closer.
