Is There Cheer in Your Cheerios?
… Life gets overwhelming from the get-go of the day. Maybe we were up too late the night before to start the day in the Word. The laundry basket is overflowing, the To-Do List is running off the page, and the week has just begun.
I’m not sure what your morning routine looks like, but mine consists of getting 4 little boys dressed, supervising bathroom duties, filling 4 sippy cups, pouring 4 bowls of cereal, distributing fruit, refilling cups, wiping up spills, wiping off 4 little mouths and 8 little hands, cleaning up 4 booster chairs, sweeping up the floor, cleaning their dishes, and trying to "keep the peace" at the same time. I find myself going from one thing to the next, completing tasks without little thought to rejoicing in the freshness of a new day and a new beginning. His mercies are new every morning, but am I too busy to thank Him for fulfilling His promise?…

I think one of the biggest frustrations of parenting is trying to find a balance between our Spiritual walk and our daily demands. I found that if I purposed to do the chores of the day as a gift for the Lord, it often lightened the burden of the mundane, and at times enveloped me in a sense of well-being that was so special, that it became a spiritual experience.
Your hands are indeed full…and the Lord knows your limitations in spending the time before Him that you desire. Those perfect little people are indeed, straight from His loving hands–you are blessed. These really hard, demanding days pass all too quickly, but aren't they truly fun? The Lord knows your tender heart and that is what matters.
The web-site you mentioned sounds wonderful. In today's world our children and grandchildren are exposed to so much temptation, it scares me. Oh that other Christian parents would have these desires, as you do.
Love your blog. Never miss reading it, but seldom comment. Those precious little boys bring great pleasure into my life, tho from afar!
I needed some perspective today, Jen. Reading about your mornings helped a bit :). I know I am not all alone on this journey–but some days just get the best of us. So, so glad His mercies are new each and every day. Can't wait to check out the new site! (Am I still welcome, now that I have Lola? *heehee*)

I love your blog and I have been a lurker/occassional commenter for a long time! I have a question for you. I have 3 girls ages 3 and under so it often feels a little like triplets… Would you do some posts about ways you make your day easier? Little short cuts you've found to make various routines easier? Anything that helps keeps a house clean, kids happy and TUNED IN TO… and a Momma still remembering that she's a child of God first and foremost!?! Like a lot of moms I think I struggle w/ this balance. Thanks so much! Danielle

Four boys! How fun! I have half that many (different ages) and it's a zoo here. I love being the mother of those two wild, little guys. I also love reading blogs by other moms of boys – nothing picks me up like a funny or touching story.
