Simple Outdoor Adventures with Boys {Day 12} : Hike a Trail
Hike a Marked Trail…
Supplies:
- Comfortable Clothing
- Comfortable Shoes
- Backpack {I love the drawstring ones} with Band-Aids, Water, Bug Spray, Cell Phone, Map, etc.
One of our absolute favorite outdoor activities to do with our boys is probably the most simple! Hiking – it’s cheap, it’s great exercise, it’s relaxing, and it’s beautiful! I love that every hike offers something different. Even the same exact trail varies in how the seasons change, what living things you might observe, or what you might notice for the first time.
We are fortunate to live minutes from one of the largest municipal parks in the United States. When we are not visiting here, we love to hit the trails at other local parks and Indiana State Parks. It doesn’t have to be a long or challenging hike to be a great family activity.
If you are new to hiking, finding your nearest state park is a great place to start. They usually offer multiple, well-marked, trails at differentiated levels, from easy to very rugged.

* Keep it short, Trail Blazers! Little legs can’t take miles of uphill climbs. Take it easy, and take breaks if necessary to enjoy the beauty!
* Be sure to bring a snack and plenty of water to share!
