The Trail to Texas
After over 18 hours of travel, we’ve arrived safe and sound in Galveston to get our ocean fix. We can’t be within a few measly hours of the beach and not see it for a day.
The road was LONG {no offense Missouri and Arkansas} and we ran into some crazy blankets of rain, but we were thankful for nothing more serious, as our hearts and prayers are with the people of Oklahoma.
The road entertainment included some Narnia, Ninjago, and White Fang on the portable DVD player, reading Charolette’s Web and some library books, lots of snacks, coloring, and listening to their iPod shuffles (refurbished 1st generation old school Apple) 😉 .
Highlights from the Honda:
– I accidentally turned an 18″ turtle into instant road kill. CRUNCH!
– Henry sang the Ninjago song at least 400 times. I’ve been singing in my sleep ever since.
– Clark in typical form asked a hundred “what if” questions. Including today’s “What if the ocean was called the Kites to Mexico?”
– The boys had “headphone hollering” and were singing and talking to each other like they were elderly.
The long hours on the road quickly paid off as soon as we laid eyes on the coast.
Tonight we are going to sleep smelling like salt and sand with a kiss of sun on our skin and happy hearts.
I frequently forget that most of the country doesn’t have access to the ocean like we do. It’s so weird to imagine not just being able to drive to the beach. 🙂 Glad you’re having fun!
WELCOME to TEXAS!!! Glad you are having fun…it is nice to view Galveston/coast from your eyes – it is easy for us to take it for granted. Give a shout out to me if you pass by Katy, Texas on your way to Austin….

Oh, the smells of the Texas, Beaches and Seaweed. If you are looking for something really cool to do take the ferry boat from Galveston to Boliver Pennasula. Just don’t feed the seagulls on the ferry boat but I am sure the boys would love it. You might even see a dophin or two on the boat ride. Oh Moody Gardens is awesome as well. My parents live on Boliver and this area was 98% devastated by Hurricane Ike and it is amazing to see how far they have come since then. If you think you might head over there let me know I can hook you up with my parents and you could hang at their house. LOL Hope you have a great time in Texas
