Influenza. {Again}

For the last four days, this has been my view…

Yep, you got it, a second strain of flu hit me on Tuesday afternoon like a ton of bricks.

  • High Fevers
  • Intense Body Aches
  • Horrible Headaches
  • Zero Energy
  • Cough/Chest on Fire
  • Nearly Fainting on Several Occasions

It’s been ugly.  Like REALLY ugly.  I don’t think I’ve ever cried so many tears from an illness in my life.

I started Tamiflu on Wednesday, which hopefully will shorten the duration of the illness, and when Brooks spiked a fever yesterday we called the doc and got 5 more prescriptions filled. (4 precautionary doses.)

Today, I’ve made a few small improvements… like washing my hair for the first time in 4 days, but the road to recovery still feels like a long one.

Brooks is being a trooper and is hanging in there. Poor little dude.  Thankful that we got on it in a hurry with him, so hopefully it will be much less intense.

I cannot thank Brad enough for his care for our family the past few days.  He’s made of steel.

I can do very little here in bed, but I did want to take a minute and type this out, so that you would know how to pray for us – as so many of you are faithful to do so!

I also wanted to open up the comments to prayer requests so that I can spend some time praying for you all while I’m stuck here with my pillow and comforter. I may not have the energy to respond to each comment, but I will check them via my phone over the next few days.  It would be a privilege to use this down time for a purpose, and I love when you share your hearts.

Thank you, Friends.

I really appreciate your offer to pray. Even though we are strangers, our heart is full of requests right now. Our house is under contract and we don’t know where we’re going next. Ideally, my husband will get a job out of state, but if not we need to find a rental that will fit our growing family. Please be in prayer for us. The unknowns can get overwhelming.
Thank you. I will stop right now and pray for you to recover!

Praying for a quick recovery. I had the flu in November (after some super duper suckiness of other things), so I totally know what you mean and how you feel (and I even had a flu shot).

While it might be little, I’ve got an infection right now, so I’d appreciate prayers to be healthy. I feel like it’s been a while.

I would love it if you could pray for my daughter (the one who had her triplets just days after you had your boys) she is having intense headaches and losing sight in one eye. The doctors are trying to find out what is going on but so far not luck. As you know taking care of multiples is hard enough but when you are having headaches continually for 3 weeks she is nearing the end of her rope. Thanks and I will pray for you that you make a speedy recovery.

You poor thing! Enough already, sickness! Hoping your entire house is healthy soon and for a long, long, long, long, long, long time (one long for each of you)!

Oh man! Being a sick momma is the worst! Praying for a speedy recovery for you! My request is small- I would like prayer that a trip to see my sister in Arizona will be possible for me this summer. It has been 8 years since I’ve been to see her, and it feels kind of selfish, but I would live some sister time without kiddos! Thanks for praying for us as we pray for you!

  6. So here’s the happy part of this. From what I can see, your bedroom is beautiful! I love the color! 🙂

    Feel better very, very quickly!

  7. My 3 year old son had that last week through this Wed. We were on the lookout for our baby to get a fever so we could run him in for some Tamiflu too…but thankfully he didn’t and I think we are over it! Its nasty stuff. Hang in there!

Prayer Request: Patience and wisdom to know how to deal with and love my 3 year old through the boundary-testing situations that 3 year old boys like to have! I’ve felt like I’ve been doing time-out non-stop the last few days and I hate days like that!

Grace & Peace to you as you rest and recover!

Thanks for praying. What a great way to use your down-time! I love reading your blog!

Will the Murray sickness end? I can’t keep track of how many times you poor guys have been sick!!!!!! I will pray for you and if you need anything let me know! Just remember “I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me” (Even through the flu!!)

Praying that you guys will all be well very soon.

Please pray for our adoption journey. It’s so hard to wait. Thanks.

My mom always said being sick was God’ way of getting you to slow down. You are very wise to use your time in your bed in such a great way!

I have a 14-year-old adopted sister from a family with a history of mental illness. She was a drug baby and has always suffered physically and mentally because of it. Long story short, it has reached a crisis point with her behavior, and I’m praying my mother and father and her are all alive by the end of this year.

Praying for you and Brooks to feel better. Praying the rest of the family stays healthy. Would you pray for my hubby? He is going on 23 months of unemployment. We know God has a plan for him. Pray for my 20 yr old type 1 diabetic who is getting an insulin pump soon. I am a retired teacher who is a substitute teacher. Pray I get more days to sub.

I am so sorry. It sounds so awful. I hope you are fully recovered soon!

Feel better! And I really hope you do well on the Tamiflu. I took it when I had the Swine Flu a couple years ago (I got it on Mother’s Day. While I was at the Cheesecake Factory with my mom for brunch. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!) and it was awful. The medicine made me sicker than the flu did (read: I spent more time on my knees in the bathroom than one person ever should – which is exhausting when it hurts to breathe), so I stopped taking it. I’m thinking about you!

  14. Miranda says:

I hope the sickness goes away and you all get well soon!

I have a prayer request. My 6 year old nephew has cancer. Hes been on chemo since last May and probably starting radiation soon. Radiation sometimes causes bones to fuse together and stop growing. He has cancer in his leg and as a 6 year old he still has a lot of growing left to do. I wrote more of his story here: http://athankfullheart.blogspot.com/2011/02/health.html

Thank you so much for praying <3!

  15. Lauren Green says:

No fun! I hope you feel better SOON.

Hey there! Lots and lots of prayers for you and Brookes, praying that noone else gets sick…
I don’t have a prayer request for us (although we always could use prayers:-)) I am requsting prayers for this sweet little girl Lucy. She is almost five (monday) and was recently diagnosed with cancer, and now this week meningitis. Please pray for this sweet precious girl. Her parents are trying to do some kind of Buzz LIghtyear theme for her birthday on monday but she is in the hospital. Please pray for her…www.erikandkatekrull.blogspot.com

Jen, I hope you are already beginning to feel better. I know there is no time for mama to be sick.
Could you please pray for me to worry less. I seem to be in constant worry that I offend friends or someone is upset with me. In general, I’m a pretty nice person but I always worry that I’m upsetting someone. The anxiety is really getting to me. Thank you. Get well soon.

Please pray for my sister and brother in law. They are on their way to Russia to meet my nephew! It is their first child, my first nephew and my sweet Mama’s first grandchild! It is an extremely exciting time, but also nerve wrecking – especially for the parents to be! I pray their wait time is extremely short and they can bring their little guy home before his 2nd birthday in June. Thank you! I hope you get well really soon and that the flu bug stays away from your home for a very long time!
