Simple Outdoor Adventures for Boys {Day 15} : Go On a Bug Hunt
Going On a Bug Hunt…
Supplies:
Bugs speak the love language of boys. Yesterday, Clark tried to convince me to start decorating with bugs. You’ll be amazed at how many bugs you can find right under your two feet! In a short ten minute walk, we discovered 19 different insects and spiders.
On trees, under logs and rocks, in the grass, and in the dirt are great places to hunt for bugs. It’s fun to keep a log of all the different kinds you spot, or take a picture to look up unknown species later. Usually someone is brave enough to catch a bug to observe up close in a container or with a magnifying glass. {I leave that part up to the boys!}

* We’ve also had a blast watching the transformation of butterflies with our Insect Lore Butterfly Kit.
* Most bugs are completely harmless, but have a prior knowledge of any bugs in your area to avoid.
What kind of bugs are your boy’s favorite?
Did you miss this weekend’s Simple Outdoor Adventures? They were 2 of my favorites!!!

I had a millipede in our house this morning- they would have been welcome to get it out for me! YUCK! I’m sure they would have loved it!! 🙂
I’m not a fan of critters in the house. Containers outside – perfectly acceptable. =)
Jen, I love this series. It’s so fun and full of life/energy. I know I don’t comment (this might be my first time!) but I’m a fan of your blog. And this series has been amazing! Thanks for sharing and for your hard work in putting this together. And may God bless you and yours…
Matthew
Matthew, thanks for blessing me with your words of encouragement today. It was such a gift to spend time with your better half this weekend. 😉
Great tips- but not just for boys! My Brownie girl scouts will be doing this for their Bugs badge 🙂
Absolutely! I know boys best, obviously, but LOTS of these activities would be perfect for girls too!
