Help Us Name Our Turtle!

Spring is in full swing at our house.  The boys are on a constant hunt for our next bug, animal, or other critter to study and beg us to keep as a pet.  Snails were first this spring, and we discovered a new friend this Friday morning, a box turtle.

The boys are trying to come up with a name for him, and we need your help!  Their first attempt at a name was “Turdy”, but they don’t understand how gross that name is.  (Or maybe they do, but don’t care.)

Here he is:

Could you or your kids give us some name suggestions?  Leave them in the comments section, and we will have the boys choose their favorite.

Also, don’t forget the upcoming launch of our new eBook, KidVentures!  Check out the post about it here.  We are so excited to push it live next week and share it with you all!

Have a great weekend!

You might want to rethink keeping it if you found it in nature. http://www.countryliving.com/ask-the-expert/keep-found-turtle-0809

If you do decide to keep it, remember that turtles carry salmonella, so anyone who handles it must be very careful and wash hands very well any time they touch it.

We had a tiny snapper named Franklin

If my brother were adding his two-cents, he’d say ‘JT’, just turtle.

  7. My boys got a turtle recently, and they also wanted to name him “Turdy!” Same thing, they just didn’t know how it sounded. My boys suggest “Bilbo.” I tried to explain that your boys are probably too young to know about The Hobbit, but they couldn’t think of anything else!

We have a Russian tortoise, and he is so much fun. I wanted a land turtle, like a box turtle or tortoise because the risk of germs is lower and you don’t have to worry about an aquarium.

I hope the boys enjoy their new pet!

My boys always wanted to name turtles Rafael, Leonardo, Donatello, and Michaelangelo.

  12. Uncle Greg says:

Hey! Whats wrong with Turdy?? We name alot of things that at work, or a variation of that.

  13. Courtney says:

How about Yertle? (You could read them Dr. Seuss’ book.)

My daughter recently “inherited” a turtle from a friend so he came with a name…Snappers (even though he does not snap; he’s a mud turtle). My daughter wanted to name him Hamburger, or Hammy for short, because he’s about the size of a hamburger.

Be sure to let us know his name! Enjoy your new pet!

    How ’bout “Hoosier”

  16. Keith says:

How about Jean-luc? Or Conchi (pronounced konky) short for conchiglia, which means shell in Italian. Like his turtle shell. Or fibio short for anfibio, Italian for amphibian. Or Bruce.

  17. Ange says:

We had a turtle named Michaelangelo because he was a painted turtle(After the artist and Ninja turtle).

I love names that start with things like

    captain or Mr.

    So maybe

    Captain Shelly
    or Mr. Lightning

or add that to any of the names above.

My kids are just random with names. My 4 yr old said to name the turtle “Addy” — this from the kid who has imaginary dragon friends named “Troll” and “Uma” so who am I to question. 🙂

My 6 yr old said to name it “Boxy” which is at least a step up from your guys’ original, perhaps?
